Grapes are called as a type of berry. They grow in the form of clusters. Grapes contain powerful anti oxidants, like phenols that may reduce the risk of different types of cancers. It also prevents heart diseases, constipation and high blood pressure. They are good for hydration and contain high water content. All these are the benefits of grapes but some of the people get allergic to this fruit. When you take it in your diet, a harmful allergen is identified and your immune system releases inflammatory chemicals that cause allergy. In most of the cases, grapes itself does not cause allergy. Pesticides, yeast and molds, which are sprayed on them during their growth, are harmful. Some of the yeast may cause allergic reactions.

  • Skin allergy: redness, swelling, rashes and eczema
  • Respiratory problems: asthma, shortness of breath, wheezing.

Some of the oral allergic symptoms also occur by using grapes in daily diet. Oral allergic symptoms include, itching of mouth, gums and tingling of tongue. Some of the other allergic symptoms include hallucinations, dizziness, headache, blurred vision etc. It has been studied that about 4 % of people are suffering from grape allergy.

On the other hand Anaphylactic shock also occurs in result of using this fruit.

This anaphylactic shock may require an immediate medical treatment. Eating large amounts of grapes may cause indigestion. This causes constipation, diarrhea, abdominal cramps etc.

Another fact that Grapes contain a substantial amount of specific protein that may cause allergic reactions in babies. Pesticides and molds that have been sprayed on grapes may cause severe type of allergy in children. If your child is suffering from cough, runny nose, rash and hives then these symptoms cannot be ignored. You should have to pay attention on their diet and avoid the use of fruit that causes allergic symptoms in those patients.

Most of the children who have allergy to this fruit may develop allergic symptoms by using the products that contain grapes. They are used in baking goods, and can be flavored in cookies, juices etc. So all of these products should be avoided if your child is suffering from grapes allergy.   • Lipid transfer protein
  • Thaumatin-like protein.

Some of these proteins like lipid transfer protein are also present in peaches. So peach and grapes together form cross reactivity in children. Parents should have to plan a proper diet for their babies; babies must not eat different types of fruit till the age of 12 months. If your baby develops some allergic symptoms, you should have to avoid that fruit and take your baby to pediatrician. The doctor will take the family history of baby having allergy and then diagnose the type of allergy. In this way most of the types of allergies in babies can be treated.

Grapes Allergy Treatment:

As it is mentioned earlier that grapes contain antioxidants that may protect you from most of the diseases. But eating too much of grapes can cause nausea or diarrhea. The reason of this allergy is that they contain fructose, it is called as a natural sugar present in many fruits, and it causes gas symptoms in stomach. Much of tannins are present in green grapes that may upset your stomach.

There is diagnosis for the allergic reactions include:

  1. Skin prick test
  2. Blood test.

Both of these diagnostic tests are used to detect the type of allergen preset in that fruit which is causing allergy.

There are some of the chances that if a person is allergic to grapes he is also getting allergic reaction by wines.For this reason the most important treatment of these allergic reactions is the avoidance of grapes fruit from your diet and reduces the intake of other products made by grapes.

Other treatments:

  • For reducing skin allergy, rashes, redness most of the anti-inflammatory medicines and creams and cosmetics are available.
  • To reduce the risk of asthma, most of the medicines related to respiration can be prescribed by the doctors.
  • Of course Epinephrine injections may be used for anaphylactic shock.
  • Accordingly doctor may give eye drops to reduce the swelling of eyes.
  • Anti-histamine medicines are used for nasal congestion.
